Gushing Winds of Change in villages of Jharkhand

Gushing Winds of Change in villages of Jharkhand

“No matter how difficult the situation is, if you desire to do something good in your life, you will succeed. All you have to do is to be more focused and grateful.”, believes Kartik Mohali, student of class 10, UHS Banjhi, Jharkhand.

Kartik lives in Sarbinda, a tiny hamlet in Podaihat block of district Goda, Jharkhand. The village is situated 24 kms away from the block headquarters.

Due to a fragile digital infrastructure and scarcity of smartphones in Sarbinda, teachers and community members in the village were concerned about their children’s education during the COVID-19 lockdown. With the support from Bharti Foundation, they worked towards taking education to all children through ‘Haar Ghar Pathsala’ campaign. However, teachers needed support of students who had access to smartphones to organise mobile community classes and deliver content.

It was then that Kartik Mohali stepped up to ensure continuity in education for students from all sections of society. He established mobile classrooms in his community to provide quality education to students who were unable to attend online classes during the lockdown. He assisted teachers in mobilising the community, organising parent-teacher meetings, and finding volunteers for teaching in the mobile classrooms. His efforts not only helped the students, but also the parents and teachers.

When asked about his motivation behind the initiative, Kartik said, “My father always motivates me to work for my community. He believes that education is the most important pillar for a strong society. His upbringing made me a positive thinker today”

When we think of a change maker, words like collaboration, inspiration, mentoring et al. come to our mind. Kartik showed all these abilities in his work during the lockdown. He has not only become the hope for parents, but also inspiration for the community youth to contribute towards the education for all children. He played a remarkable role in ensuring continuity in education for the children of Sarbinda during the lockdown. With these efforts, children of the Sarbinda got an opportunity to study and their parents became hopeful for the future.
