Bharti Foundation launched the ‘School Excellence Program’ for Mentor Teachers of Delhi

Working in the domain of education, Bharti Foundation dives deep to gauge the short-term and long-term impact of various interventions on the education ecosystem.

Bharti Foundation has been working with the SDMC and Delhi government schools since 2016. In the last 15 years, the Foundation has had an effective collaboration with the 79 Delhi government schools to ensure quality education for the children. To expand the radius of impact, the Foundation launched the ‘School Excellence Program’ in Delhi in September 2021.

The program aims to train 140 Mentor teachers to reach more than 400 schools in the national capital. The ‘School Excellence Program’ will also support the quality improvement initiatives of the state government and impact the students, teachers, parents as well as administrators to transform schools into vibrant and happy learning centres.

The concept of Mentor Teachers was introduced by the Delhi Government in 2016 under the Mentor Teacher Programme. Under this initiative, a mentor teacher has five to six schools under his/her supervision. She/he goes to each school once a week to interact with the staff and students. Their role is to ensure that all schools are following latest education guidelines.

The goal of the ‘School Excellence Program’ is to train these mentor teachers, who will empower Heads of the schools to enhance the overall schooling experience for the children.

The program targets are:-

  • To ensure unique School Development Plan for School Excellence is developed and implemented by all schools through mentor teachers
  • To improve student performance in co-scholastic activities with the focused approach taken by the school Heads
  • To increase Parents’ and SMC members’ engagement in school development.

The program will be implemented in two phases:

Phase 1 (Primary Reach) – Mentor teachers of DOE (Directorate of Education) will be trained to train the Heads of schools.

Phase 2 (Secondary Reach) – The trained mentor teachers will enable the school Heads and teachers for effective implementation of the program at the school level. This phase is very critical as the goal of phase 1 trainings is to ensure holistic development of these Delhi govt. school students.

Bharti Foundation will support the DoE to monitor, review and suggest corrective actions for school improvement in the UT. Various recognition awards and certifications have been planned for the Mentor teachers and the schools to appreciate their efforts and performance, such as; Mentor teachers who participate in the training will get the certificate of completion. The best contributing schools will get School excellence award after evaluating the progress in January.
