A team of 24 students from Bharti Foundation’s Satya Bharti Adarsh Senior Secondary School in Rauni, Punjab have successfully set up their own Cash Crop Farming Business. The team started the project from scratch – they started by conducting motivational sessions in the community to raise resources and manpower support. They managed to convince around 50 people from the community who helped the students in ploughing the land.
The team members made the land ready for farming and a variety of seasonable seeds were sown. The students divided themselves in different groups who had to take up particular responsibilities, such as finance management, sales and marketing management, purchase management, quality control, and store management. Once the seeds were sown, supervision, maintenance, caring, procuring were done by the production and quality control departments. The students used organic manure and made special beds on the land for the crops to grow.
The students then sold the products in the market to earn profits. The process made them hone their marketing skills as well as entrepreneur knowledge of purchasing, profit making, and effective communication. With their profits, they decided to distribute good quality seeds to poor farmers and also guide them how to go for cash crop farming instead of traditional farming.
