“Initially, we had challenges. Many parents, who are daily wagers, did not own a smartphone. In some cases, there is only one phone for the entire family’s use. Parents and children did not know how to download videos and apps. Some parents left the class-wise WhatsApp group immediately after we added them.
We started doing separate counselling sessions with parents. We explained every point on how the new teaching-learning process would be, and how much important their role is in ensuring that children continue to learn. We assisted them on how to download apps and videos.
It took us some time. But we could do it. Today, my students call me or message me immediately if I delay in giving my response to their homework – even by two minutes. Parents have developed a habit of sharing pics of their child’s homework over the WhatsApp groups regularly.
In this process, all of us – teachers, students, and parents – have learned so much. That’s one of the best things.”
