Highlights from the year 2018-19

In 2016, Bharti Foundation partnered with the Government in Uttar Pradesh to enhance the quality of education delivered in the government schools in the state. Under its Satya Bharti Quality Support Program, Bharti Foundation works with 15 government schools in Uttar Pradesh in Ghazipur district. The program is currently benefitting more than 1900 students and over 60 teachers.

Following are the highlights from the year 2018-19:

  • District level 3rd Position secured in running from a girl student from PS Deva-1. There were total 32 students who won awards in year 2018-19.

  • 15 schools were supported to convert classrooms into Vibrant Class Room, by repairing, painting and using various TLMs and display of student friendly learning materials. A class room is modelled into vibrant class room in each school so as to replicate for all class rooms.

  • Remedial Education: Students have been assessed in all 15 schools in Hindi and Mathematics and grouped as per their learning levels. 1413 students were enrolled in classes 2 to 5. 802 students were identified in remedial category in Maths Baseline Assessment and 705 students in Hindi Baseline Assessment. All students under remedial category were provided remedial education, with the help of Education Volunteers using remedial module and workbooks. Provision of remedial period has been made in the school routine.

  • Students Attendance improved (during July 2018 to March 2019) in all 15 schools, by average 24%. The highest improvement was recorded in Dullahpur. 12 schools witnessed more than 15%.

  • Swachhta Hi Sewa: during Sept 2018 and on 2nd Oct 2018, more than 1500 students from 15 schools took part in various activities promoting Shwachhta Hi Sewa campaign. This campaign not only supported central and state government initiatives to promote clean and hygienic environment, it also changed students attitude towards maintenance of their school, house and village.

  • Parent Teacher Meetings: with average 84% attendance in parent teacher meetings (PTMs) and 11 PTMs held during April 2018 to March 2019, parents are now more involved in school development, reflecting through increased community volunteering and community contribution. Schools now send meeting notice to parents and organize one to one meeting between parent and teacher.

  • Student Houses and Clubs: All students are part of 53 Houses formed in 15 schools in Ghazipur, led by House Captain and Vice-Captain. There are 91 student clubs formed in 15 schools, led by President and Secretary in each club. 53 % of student club leadership positions held by girls across all schools. All national, international and state important days, intra-school events, campaigns, etc. are being organized by Student Clubs under the guidance of Teacher-in-charge. Average of 8 events and activities were organized by student clubs in each school.

  • Ensured activation of reading corner in 15 schools, nearly 120 books are provided to all schools and students are encouraged to read books and do literary activities such as essay writings, quiz and debates.

  • Total 32 student won awards during the reported year, including one district level award, two block level awards.

  • Facilities improvement: Besides 15 class room renovation, boundary wall gate was installed in Chaukiya school, toilet was repaired in Audhari, sun-shade was installed in Rajdepur Dehati.

Job Description Academic Mentor

  • To support School Heads / Principals and strengthen the curriculum planning, delivery and class room transaction process for improved effectiveness.
  • To optimize usage and improvement of school’s infrastructure and facilities especially working toilets, functional library, computer labs, Science labs and energized classrooms.
  • To activate critical processes such as sports, drawing and other student cantered activities and events.
  • To smoothen academic operations throughout the year and also non-academic operations viz sports day, annual day, republic day, community volunteering, PTM etc.
  • To support teachers through interactive sessions.
  • To conduct subject wise week in schools for Science, English and Math linked with the annual curriculum.
  • To extend technical support to teachers on subject specific skills.
  • To support on difficult concepts and conduct specific need-based refresher training.
  • To extending support in planning the entire academic year including curriculum rollout, remedial, assessments and processes for ongoing monitoring and mentoring.
