Ever since the COVID 19 pandemic hit us and the lockdown was announced, many migrant laborers throughout the country who worked on daily wages started facing basic livelihood challenges.
Many migrants in the Mahendergarh District in Haryana were also facing challenges when it came to sustenance. In this critical situation, Mr. Sunil Kumar (Head Teacher, Satya Bharti School, Khairana) and Mr. Rajesh Kumar (Head teacher, Satya Bharti School, Gomla) came forward to contribute their efforts into helping the migrant laborers and their families. Together, they inspired a group of 20 young members from the community to provide food to over a hundred migrant laborers while following the social distancing norms.
In order to facilitate the entire project, Khairana, Gomla and Bhojawas’s youth came forward in collaboration and provided meals to the needy two-times a day. In their noble endeavor, many families within the district, including the Ex-Sarpanch joined hands and supported with resources.
Sunil and Rajesh contributed their bit as well, to prepare wholesome meals including roti, rice, vegetable, raita, etc. along with the youth members, and led this initiative until the migrant laborers found the means to go back their native places. The initiative ran for the course of one month.
With virtual being the new means in education, both the head teachers have been running activities for the school children online and have truly been an inspiration to many by helping the community learn and grow!
