Satya Bharti School Alumnus Champa Ram beats the odds to get into IIT

Champa Ram (Alumnus, Satya Bharti School, Jati Bandhu, Jodhpur) has secured admission in IIT Madras to pursue Civil Engineering. His aspirations and endeavours thereof, have brought him closer to his dream!

Growing up in poverty, life had always been a struggle for basics for Champa Ram’s family of seven – his parents, along with his four brothers. The sole bread earner in the family was his father, who worked as a farmer. His life started to transform after he got enrolled in Satya Bharti School, Jati Bandhu.

Champa Ram aced all his tests and was always dedicated towards his studies. He even participated in various indoor sports, one of his favourites being carrom. In the year 2013, when Champa Ram was in Class VI, he learnt that Mr. Rakesh Bharti Mittal, Co-Chairman, Bharti Foundation was coming to visit his school. Champa Ram wrote a letter to him, excerpts of which were:

Dear Sir, I welcome you to our school. I want to tell you that owing to poverty, my father – a farmer – could not send me to school. So I stayed at home and helped my parents with household chores. I came to know about the newly built Satya Bharti School in our village where education is completely free from a neighbor who was an Army Officer. My parents agreed, and I started getting an education. I made a friend in the very first day of school. I am grateful to our teachers who care a lot about us. Here, every child has a dream of doing something for our country. I have a dream too – of becoming an engineer one day.”

Champa Ram graduated from Satya Bharti School in class 8 and joined Navodaya Vidyalaya. He scored CGPA 10 in Class X Board Exams in 2017. Unfortunately, in the same year, he lost his father. Thereafter, he struggled harder and went on to score 93.6% in his Class XII Board Exams. Things took a bitter turn when his ailing mother passed away during his preparations for JEE entrance exams, leaving the responsibility of running the family on the shoulders of his eldest brother.

However, dedicated to continue his education, Champa Ram worked hard and passed the entrance exam, scoring AIR 11,036 and Category Rank 2180. He secured a seat to pursue Civil Engineering from Indian Institute of Technology, Madras. He is now looking forward to start his online classes from 23rd November, 2020, with a basic smartphone, gifted by his brother.

Champa Ram still cherishes the response letter by Mr. Rakesh Bharti Mittal, excerpts of which were:

Dear Champa, I am moved by your thoughts and I am pleased to learn that your Satya Bharti School has inspired you to dream. I thank the Army Officer who helped you join school, and also to your parents for supporting you. I am delighted to know about your first friend in school. I am pleased to read your words of appreciation for your teachers. I am well assured that you will certainly become an engineer one day and serve the country. You have my best wishes.”

We congratulate Champa Ram on having realised his dreams and wish him good luck for his future endeavours!
